
Captain Arthur
Clement Johnson, Jr.
Captain Johnson was born in Norfolk, VA in 1926. Following World
War II, in which he served, Captain Johnson joined the Virginia
Pilots' Association. During his 42 years of service he piloted
over 10,000 ships throughout the Chesapeak Bay area. Now retired,
he lives in Irvington, VA. In his videotaped interview Captain
Johnson shares with us stories about how steamers navigated the
